Basic questions you should ask yourself before embarking on a law firm marketing strategy

There are three basic questions you should ask yourself as an attorney before deciding on the kind of law firm marketing strategies you desire for your law firm.

1. Where am i?

2. Where do I want to go?

3.  How do I get there?

One of the obstacles of law firm marketing is that most attorneys are often distracted of urgent matters and they tend to neglect the bigger picture of things to come. All good plans start with an assessment of the current situation, and there are three basic business development problems faced by attorneys and they are; problems of  having few clients,  The problem of having the wrong clients, and lastly; having lots of clients but generating too little income from them.  You therefore need to ask yourself a question- who exactly is your preferred clients? And if you don’t have an answer to this question then your law firm marketing strategy will be rather disappointing.
As an attorney, you need to understand what part of your marketing plan is working and which ones need to be improved . You must estimate what exactly what you want to achieve in the next few years and try to compare them with what you have achieved in past periods.  You don’t have to wait till you have a clear understanding of where you are heading for before you set your goals and objectives.  Giving the level you are now, you need to determine  the number of clients you desire in next few years, ascertain if you are employing more attorneys to help you in handling legal cases and probably if you are diversifying into other legal professions.
Once you have developed your plan, you need to set out the mechanisms with which you will achieve such goals.  Include strategies that will create a mutual friendship between you and other attorneys,  and once you have created you strategies, you need to make plans that are specific, action plans must be specific and time dependent goals. If you will need to  get around 100 more referrals in the new year,  you must try and meet them every week. A certain amount proactive networking will help you in this regard. Aside this, you need to set aside some time to meet your referrals, try and spend quality time with them.
